Under the same Moon

I'll Walk Beside You

Under the same Moon and its companion volume I'll Walk Beside You (publication date to be announced)  comprise both a meticulously researched, well-constructed piece of history, and a portrait of a marriage interrupted by war, but continued by correspondence. The gallery of persons is large and various, the scenes painted vivid and evocative, and, despite horror and psychological/emotional distress at the highest level, the pathos is controlled, warmth, humour and civility shining through.

It is a story within a story within a story – a Matryoshka doll of love, laughter, sobriety and evil, of courage, the human support of camaraderie that makes survival more possible, and the miraculous default to humour that can occur as men and women endure appalling circumstances. It is a recreation of the horror that is war and the depleted civilian life for those left behind.
